JURY DUTY

image

I’ve been experiencing the judicial process known as jury duty this week.  Yipes.  There is certainly something to be said for cowboy justice.  Oh well,  the experience stretches on.

So are you actually serving on a jury, or are you just checking in to see if you will be needed? I've been on both a civil and a criminal jury in the 14 years I've lived in LA county, and it's very interesting. My employer paid me to serve, so i didn't have any of that anxiety, and it allowed me to - well, "enjoy" isn't the best word, but... - have the experience without worrying.

It was interesting. It was also something that made me feel worthy of participating in the judicial process.

*Aunt - The trial is still in the process of choosing jurors. This is a frustratingly slow process. This is the 3rd criminal case I've been involved with as a juror in about 10 years.

Note:
I was set free on the 5th day of service leaving the trial in the jury selection stage. I'm glad to be rid of this attempted murder trial where the defendant was representing himself. It might sound interesting; but it wasn't.

Wow. The defendant was representing himself in an attempted murder trial?

Geez, my criminal case was only some sad sack who robbed patients' belongings at UCLA hospital and then got caught by cops as he was trying to scale a fence into the VA graveyard to make his getaway.

I think jury duty is best tolerable in a courthouse where there are good lunch joints nearby.

You know what they say - a lawyer who represents himself has a fool for a client.
